FUNDRAISING GOAL : $500.00

Cleft lip and palate is one of the most common birth anomalies in the world. The type and severity of a cleft will vary from child to child. In some countries such as India and Peru, cleft lip and palate occurs in one of every 500 births. Despite extensive research about cleft lip and palate, its causes are still unknown.

The condition affects a child’s appearance, speech, teeth, eating, hearing and ability to develop socially. Children born with cleft lip and palate need the help of a multidisciplinary medical team to treat all of the problems associated with clefts that may develop.

We advocate for comprehensive cleft care, which means quality reconstructive surgery, as well as ongoing rehabilitation. Wherever possible, our cleft teams include audiologists, dentists, nurse co-ordinators, orthodontists, social workers, speech therapists, surgeons. So children with cleft lip and palate have the best possible chance to live full, healthy lives.

We direct 100% of all donations to our cleft programs for children around the world, thanks to a private charitable foundation which covers our overhead.

Community sustainability is a priority. We work in partnership with community groups, building local skills and opportunities. Your donations will be directed to our cleft care partnerships in developing countries so that they may care for children and adult. It will also support local training opportunities.

OUR MISSION

Transforming Faces is a Canadian charity that provides free multi-disciplinary cleft care for children and adults in developing countries.

We work in partnership with local cleft specialists and fund community-based medical teams. Through local capacity building, we aim to develop, facilitate and promote multi-disciplinary cleft teams

We advocate strongly for comprehensive cleft care, meaning wherever possible our local cleft teams include:

  • audiologists
  • dentists
  • nurse co-ordinators
  • orthodontists
  • social workers
  • speech therapists
  • surgeons
Cleft lip and palate can be successfully treated using a comprehensive approach. Our partner teams provide multi-disciplinary cleft care, so that children can be socially accepted and lead a productive life.
