(Hamilton, ON – April 19, 2013) Canada Post 2012 E-Commerce Innovation Awards finalist Trend Trunk invites fashion forward Canadians to raise funds for their favourite cause by cashing in their closet or while shopping closets full of styles they’ll love at up to 80% savings! In partnership with national and local organizations, including 4 of the top 10 Canadian charities, they are on a mission to combine fashion and fundraising by officially launching Closets & Causes today.

Statistics show the percentage of Canadians donating to charity has declined; meanwhile the average consumer has approximately $6000 worth of clothing in their closet waiting to be “cashed in.” Trend Trunk’s social marketplace enables consumers to buy or sell their fashionable clothing while providing an opportunity to donate up to 100% of the net proceeds to a worthy cause.

“We admire Trend Trunk’s innovative, socially responsible business approach and support for leading national charities,” said Adrian Horwood, Vice-President, Corporate Partnerships, SickKids Foundation. “Support from the Closets and Causes campaign will help support the critical, lifesaving work done every day at the hospital and will truly make a difference in the lives of patients at SickKids.”

“We’ve created a world-class solution, combining the ability to raise funds in a crowd-funding environment. We’ve partnered with a fantastic group of well known organizations to kick off Closets & Causes and we look forward to more partnerships!” said Trend Trunk founder Sean Snyder.

Creating a win-win situation, Trend Trunk encourages Canadians to recycle and re-use their fashion, all while receiving a tax receipt for the donated value.

“Trend Trunk’s initiative in supporting charities through Closets and Causes is a great new way to raise money and awareness for our campaigns” said Tanya Rumble, Associate Manager, Community and Ethnic Engagement, Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Crowned one of Hamilton’s top 10 start-up companies, recently featured on the Marilyn Denis Show and Cityline, Trend Trunk is expanding quickly. The company pitched their innovative concept to a panel of Canadian business moguls on CBC‘s hit show Dragon’s Den in hopes to air during the Fall 2013 season.
